Optolab is a University Laboratory with a wide spectrum of activities, spanning from basic research on optical devices, components and systems, to applied research on industrial and biomedical applications optics and lasers. Undergraduate students enrolling in Optolab usually find an ideal humus for their thesis work (in the current University system, in Italy, a thesis is the result of a theoretical/experimental activity with a duration of no less than 8-10 months). On the other side, Ph.D. students find the opportunity to carry out research on innovative topics, no matter if they refer to basic or applied research. Another key aspect of Optolab is the cultivation of the young researchers’ personal tendency to become high-tech entrepreneurs. This is achieved, in the Laboratory, by favouring the association of Ph.D. students and of Undergraduate students, to form start-ups that have the goal of exploiting the research activity carried out in the Laboratory, and of transforming it into new products or services that can be directly marketable. First among the Research Laboratories in our University to have started the creation of start-ups, Optolab has now a considerable experience in the field, that can be used by other Laboratories. Since the beginning, Optolab worked at the development of applied research in collaboration with university and industrial partners. In this page, the reader can find the references to the start-ups created so far.
